OUR MISSION
Our mission is to encourage the potential of all children by providing them with a developmentally appropriate and caring environment that supports their emotional, social, cognitive and physical development, while responding to the needs of families. We are committed to establishing a community where children, parents, teachers and staff will be engaged in a challenging and joyful environment that encourages children to learn and grow confidently. Our purpose is to provide a well-balanced, customized curriculum for children from 3 months to first grade, while nurturing and increasing a child’s aptitude and skills. Our program combines a sound educational philosophy, creative use of materials, technology, special equipment, and outstanding motivated teachers to give your child a dynamic and rewarding learning experience that will last them a life time.
OUR PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy stems from the legacy of constructivist visionaries of learning such as John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget and Howard Gardner .We foresee a learning environment where lifelong learning, critical thinking, joy and high self-esteem are honored as capabilities of every child.
Our child-centered program builds upon children’s prior experience and knowledge. We believe that children are better at constructing their own knowledge, than we are at teaching them. For this reason, play is highly valued in our program. We believe that play provides children with opportunities to explore the world and use their multiple ways of learning to make decisions in a risk free environment. We celebrate each child’s uniqueness and respect each child’s cultural diversity and perspective of the world. We take advantage of every child’s uniqueness to teach and learn from one another and thus, build a strong community of learners. Our understanding of the human brain in the process of learning leads us to believe that learning should be relaxed and fun. Through a variety of activities, we intend to facilitate the integration of both hemispheres of the brain. Our program helps children expand their curiosity and imagination.
A child’s emotional state is a powerful learning influence. Therefore we believe that each has the right to experience success from the beginning of his/her life. The best way to achieve this is by highlighting children’s strengths, which will consequently promote the development of unexplored areas. Our program builds on children’s self-esteem and emphasizes creating a positive emotional impact to create life-long well- adjusted learners.
Children learn best when learning is fun. When the teacher is motivated and shows passion in what he/she does. Children need to be healthy and have a well-balanced diet. The ideal learning environment for children is a well-planned environment which can provide young children with appropriate and challenging learning experiences within a consistent and secure setting. Such an environment also allows staff to become involved in meaningful, intimate interactions with children by reducing the time required for organizing and reorganizing furniture, rooms, and equipment and more time spent with the children.
The material for children’s learning should be age appropriate and free from any controversy. Materials should include blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, and lots of books. Phonemic awareness is a building block for children’s comprehension. The role of culture in children’s learning is of utmost importance, the teacher/adult needs to be sensitive to both the child and parents of cultural beliefs and traditions. The teacher/adult should be free of biased due to cultural differences. The role of parents and family in children’s learning is that parents need to be involved; parents need to be working together with the teacher to ensure a great working relationship and to do what is best for the child. Statistics say that parents that are involved in the children’s learning skills have a much higher success rate.
As adults, we view ourselves as lifelong learners as well. Therefore, the best way to teach children is when children teach us how they learn. In other words, there is not “one right way” to teach all children. Because each child learns differently, our staff will work as a team to approach each child’s learning style individually.
